Reading for Pleasure
Reading is vital in supporting your children to expand their world and deepen their understanding of the people and experiences around them. It strengthens their learning across the curriculum and helps them confidently read and interpret questions independently. Through regular reading, children develop a richer vocabulary, gain empathy and sympathy for experiences that differ from their own, and build the skills that support strong, expressive writing. As Malorie Blackman reminds us: “Reading is an exercise in empathy; an exercise in walking in someone else’s shoes for a while.”
